British Food? Yes Please!

 Bangers and Mash

So before I came to Londontown, I had heard and read about the reputation of British food and by all accounts the reviews were bad. Very bad. People were saying how awful and bland British food was and I needed to just live off McDonalds and KFC for the duration of my stay here. Well I'm here to tell you that is complete and utter rubbish!

I LOVE British food (except beans on toast which I will explain in another blog entry)! I was pleasantly surprised at how tasty it is. My favorite  dish WAS fish and chips which is a staple in British food society. Everyone raved about fish and chips. And let me tell you, I absolutely love the fish and chips here. Now I consider myself a fish and chip connoisseur (and judging by my recent weight gain, my hips consider me a fish and chip connoisseur also), and having visited a many fish and chips shops in London, not everyone has good fish and chips. But the majority of places where I have been have good fish and chips.  And the hole in the wall places that are hidden on some back alley street seem to serve the best fish and chips. Before I leave Londontown, I think I'll compile a list of my favorite fish and chippy places and put them on here.

But I have recently discovered a new dish that I absolutely love and thought it would be gross, and that's bangers and mash which is basically sausages and mash potatos served sometimes with gravy (which I don't eat) or some red sauce that I can't remember the name of but it was good! I'll find out the name of it and place it on here. Anyways, I discovered bangers and mash on accident. My friend  Emily and I went across the street from our university to have lunch at a pub. This pub did not have fish and chips! The nerve of them! So I had to have a substitute and hence the bangers and mash. It was sooooooo good! I thought it was going to be disgusting and judging by the picture above, it probably looks a little disgusting but it was so good. Who knew that two random foods like sausages and mash potatos can be put together and form a very tasty dish? And it's very filling!

So now I'm on a mission to find the best bangers and mash dish in London. Yes this is killing the hips but I think I have a duty as an American in London to find this information out and present it to you. You're welcome.

Bangers! Haven't had those since I was in London the last time. They're nice (if you are lucky enough to find a place that can prepare them).

Please do share if you find a good restaurant, or pub.

Tobi, OMG it was so good! You're right...not everyone prepares it right. I went to another restaurant and order that dish and it wasn't nearly as good as the one in the picture. I'll put my favourite places on here for you! Thanks for reading my Viking friend!

The Banger and mash looks absolutely horrible...I'd try it if I was drunk enough...now I love fish and chips, there's a little English joint out here that I go to.
